From the rubble of the old world, a new and deadlier one awaits.
The Desecrae has fallen, and the curse of Fourspires has lifted. Alix and Elliot may have survived the apocalypse, but they now find themselves in the lethal world of Newspires. Slipping into the ocean and built on fish bones and salt, arcania has new rules here and deadly games of manipulation must be played in order to survive life at court. And whilst the un-dead nuns perished in the fall of Fourspires, more sinister creatures plague the court of Newspires – malefici; twisted, hungry arcanical monsters forged from warped magic. This strange and terrifying new world forces a close proximity between former rivals Alix and Elliot, and soon burning passion and hatred ignite.
Meanwhile, in the Netherworld, Taro has forced her way into the land of the dead in a desperate attempt to find Nixie. But the very last thing that Nixie wants is to be chased through the afterlife by her bone witch ex-girlfriend. The ghost of Sobweb still haunts them, even in death, and they’ll need to find a way to communicate with the living if they’re ever going to banish her once and for all.
Because in the bowls of the Newspires castle, The Drowning Rooms hold a terrifying secret that history has very nearly forgotten. It’s a secret that once exposed could change not only Newspires but also the Netherworld and all those who dwell in them.
